Your payment just failed when validating your motorkit.com order? Don't panic, this is generally not a serious problem and several simple solutions exist. Here is how to identify the cause and complete your purchase.

1. Understanding why a payment is refused

In 9 out of 10 cases, a payment refusal comes from your issuing bank (the bank that issued your card or account) and not from motorkit.com. Here are the most common causes:

Common causes

  • Payment limit exceeded (weekly or monthly limit)
  • 3D Secure not validated or SMS code expired
  • Bank security: the bank suspects an unusual payment and blocks as a precaution
  • Insufficient balance on the account
  • Foreign payment not authorised on your card
  • Online purchases disabled on your card
  • Expired card or incorrect expiry date
  • Wrong details (number, CVV, expiry date)
  • Use of a VPN or proxy (see dedicated section)

2. Solutions according to the payment method used

You paid by credit card (Visa, Mastercard)

Immediate checks
  1. Payment limit: log into your bank's app or website. If you have reached your weekly or monthly limit, you can usually unblock it temporarily.
  2. 3D Secure: did you receive and validate the SMS code or notification from your banking app? The code expires after 1-2 minutes.
  3. Details: re-check the card number, the expiry date, the CVV (3 digits on the back) and the cardholder name exactly as on the card.
  4. Expired card: check the expiry date on your physical card.
Solutions
  • Call your bank to unblock the transaction (number on the back of your card)
  • Try again after a few minutes (the delay may allow the transaction to go through)
  • Use another card if you have a second one
  • Change payment method (see alternatives below)

You paid by Bancontact

  • Check that your banking app is properly up to date
  • Validate the payment within the allotted time (usually 5 minutes)
  • Check the Bancontact limit in your banking app
  • If the app didn't respond, try again from the motorkit.com cart

You paid by iDEAL

  • Check that your Dutch banking app is working correctly
  • Validate the payment with your code or fingerprint
  • Check your limit with your bank

You paid by Apple Pay or Google Pay

  • Check that the card linked to Apple Pay / Google Pay is valid and not expired
  • Validate the payment with Face ID, Touch ID or code
  • If the payment fails, try with another card linked to your wallet

You chose SEPA bank transfer

SEPA transfer is not refused in real time — it is simply pending until receipt of funds. If you made the transfer and it has not been received after 3 working days, contact support@motorkit.com.

3. Causes on motorkit.com side (rare)

More rarely, the refusal may come from our side or from our payment provider Stripe:

  • Temporary technical issue on the payment platform
  • Maintenance of Stripe
  • Inconsistent billing details with those registered by your bank

In these cases, try again in a few minutes or contact us.

4. Are you using a VPN or proxy? Common cause of refusal

Using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) or proxy during an online payment can automatically trigger a transaction refusal, even if everything else is correct.

Why is VPN a problem?

Bank security systems and our payment provider Stripe analyse in real time several parameters to detect fraud:

  • The geographic location of your IP address
  • The country of issue of your credit card
  • Your billing address
  • Your delivery address

If these parameters are inconsistent (for example: French card + IP located in the USA via VPN), the transaction is considered suspicious and automatically refused as a security measure.

How to resolve?

Disable your VPN or proxy before proceeding with payment:

  1. Quit the VPN application (NordVPN, ExpressVPN, ProtonVPN, etc.)
  2. Check on whatismyip.com that your IP corresponds to your actual country
  3. Resume your order from the cart
  4. Make the payment normally

Special cases

  • Corporate VPN: if your employer imposes a VPN, ask your IT service if it's possible to disable it temporarily, or use your personal network (mobile 4G/5G or home Wi-Fi)
  • On mobile: check VPN settings in Settings → VPN (iOS) or Settings → Connections → VPN (Android)
  • Antivirus with integrated VPN: some antivirus software (Avast, Norton, Kaspersky) activate a VPN by default. Disable it temporarily

I really need the VPN?

If you really cannot disable your VPN, contact us at support@motorkit.com before attempting payment, specifying:

  • Your actual country of residence
  • The apparent country via your VPN
  • The payment method you wish to use

We will study together the best solution to complete your order.

5. My payment is refused even though everything seems correct

If you have checked all the above causes and the payment still fails:

Step 1: Try another payment method

motorkit.com accepts several payment methods. If one fails, another may work immediately:

  • Credit card (Visa, Mastercard)
  • Bancontact (Belgium)
  • iDEAL (Netherlands)
  • Apple Pay (on Apple devices)
  • Google Pay (on Android devices)
  • SEPA bank transfer

For details on payment methods, consult the article "Can I pay via PayPal?"

Step 2: Contact your bank

If several cards fail, the problem is probably on your bank's side. Call the number on the back of your card to:

  • Unblock the transaction
  • Temporarily increase your limit
  • Authorise online or foreign payments

Step 3: Contact us

If nothing works, contact support@motorkit.com specifying:

  • The payment method you are trying to use
  • The exact error message displayed (if any)
  • A screenshot if possible
  • The approximate time of the attempt
  • Your cart or order number (if assigned)

Important: never communicate to us your full card number, your CVV or your 3D Secure code by email. This information is strictly personal and is never necessary for us.

6. I was charged but my order does not appear

If your bank account has been charged but you do not receive a confirmation of order, it is generally an unfinalised payment authorisation.

What happens?

  • Your bank has reserved the amount on your account (authorisation)
  • But the payment was not validated on Stripe / motorkit.com side
  • The authorisation is automatically released by your bank within 3 to 7 working days
  • You recover your money without any action on your part

Recommended action

  • Wait a few days and check your bank statement
  • If you see "authorisation" or "pending" on your statement, the charge is not real
  • In case of doubt after 7 days, contact support@motorkit.com

7. Security of your payments on motorkit.com

To reassure you in case of doubt:

  • All our payments are secured via Stripe (PCI DSS standard)
  • 3D Secure activated by default on card payments
  • No banking data is stored on motorkit.com servers
  • SSL encryption on all payment pages

For more details on security, consult the article "Can I pay via PayPal?"
